This minimally disruptive procedure allows the surgeon conventional surgery techniques through a small incision. The XLIF procedure does not require entry through sensitive back muscles, bones, or ligaments, resulting in less postoperative pain.
Thoracotomy − Traditionally, the thoracic spine is approached via a technique known as thoracotomy. This procedure approaches the thoracic spine from the side of the rib cage, requiring a large incision, removal of a rib, and deflation of the lung on that side.
