XLIF® – eXtreme Lateral Interbody Fusion
NuVasive, in collaboration with Luiz Pimenta, M.D., Ph.D., São Paulo, Brazil, developed the XLIF procedure.
The XLIF technique allows a safe, reproducible direct lateral retroperitoneal approach to the intervertebral disc space. When coupled with NeuroVision® nerve detection capabilities, the MaXcess® System enables maximum surgical access while minimizing the soft tissue disruption that often occurs during open surgery. By allowing greater access to the disc space, a larger implant can be used, which indirectly decompresses nerves by restoring disc height.
